For Such a Time as This
My husband and I are both history lovers. We especially love the war eras: the Civil War, the Revolutionary War, and World War II in particular. I love to romanticize the era, which I know was in reality full of a lot of pain and death. He appreciates the gallant men who sacrificed so much on the altar of freedom. We know that the past is often looked back on as the "good old days," when that is not always the case.
Still we joke that we were born in the wrong era. A couple of generations off, we say. This world has little appeal to us, and we are often thought of as prudish. Truth be told, as much as we long for times gone by, times we never knew, God has placed us in this time for a special reason.
2016...What will this year be remembered for? The question honestly fills me with a considerable amount of dread. But maybe that is the wrong attitude. The unknown is not something to fill us with fear and doubt, but an opportunity to impact the way things turn out.
So if the future seems overwhelming to you today, remember that you are here for a specific purpose. You are not helplessly flailing into the unknown. God has a beautiful plan for your life which ends with Him welcoming you into His arms as His good and faithful servant. Until then, press on. As long as you have breath in your body, He is not done with you.

"The dark menace of the future makes cowards of us all, and the past is a thing which each of us must overcome in her own way." Dorothea Dix, PBS' Mercy Street
