1934: Chapter 1

Chapter 1: The Station

1934

Twenty four years had passed since Elizabeth came to town. Hope Valley was barely recognizable with its paved streets and power lines cutting across the skyline. Elizabeth's hair was short and styled in waves. Her face was still beautiful, and her eyes told the story of love lost and love reborn.
She waited at the train depot, her sleek skirt reaching just above the ankle. She pulled her long coat around her as she shivered in the winter wind that whipped through the valley.
As the train hissed to a stop, an eager smile crept across her face, and her eyes shone in anticipation. From the train stepped a handsome man in red serge, who swept off his hat and planted a kiss on her cheek.
"It's good to be home," he said, as tears of joy shone in her eyes. A smirk stretched across his face, and she couldn't help but think of how much he looked like his father.
